Study details & methodology

Name
“The 2025 Student Health Survey (SHS) provides important data that can improve our understanding of the challenges students face.”

Oregon Student Health Survey, survey wave 2025.

State
“Results for State of Oregon are provided in these data tables.”

Oregon, United States.

Publication year
“2026 Data Release:”

The Oregon Department of Education’s September 2026 newsletter identifies the 2025–26 SHS results as a 2026 release.

Fieldwork dates
“The SHS was administered at schools between October 2025 and January 2026.”
Sample size
“6th grade: 24,871”“8th grade: 22,149”“11th grade: 16,119”“Total: 63,139”

63,139 participating students: 24,871 in grade 6, 22,149 in grade 8 and 16,119 in grade 11. The technology-facilitated dating-abuse question applies only to grade 11; physical dating abuse is asked in grades 8 and 11. Counts answering each question can be smaller.

Age range
“These data tables show results by grade (6th, 8th, and 11th) and combined across all grades.”

Grades 6, 8 and 11; the report does not define a closed age range.

Sampling
“In 2025, all districts were included in the sampling frame and were invited to participate regardless of enrollment.”“ORS 431.132 requires districts to make the SHS available to students. Students may choose not to take the survey or may refuse to answer any question on the survey.”

All districts were invited. Student and parent participation was voluntary, so this is an attempted census rather than a random sample. State-run schools without an associated district were excluded.

Harms measured

Bullying
“The next questions are about bullying. If you or someone you know needs help, a variety of free, confidential and anonymous support is available 24/7. Please see the Support Resource Sheet that will be handed out when you’re done with the survey for details.…” “During the past 12 months, have you ever been electronically bullied? Count being bullied through texting, Instagram, other social media, online gaming, or livestreaming?”Response options: Yes / No / I am not sure / I don’t know what this question is asking / I prefer not to answer

Grades 6, 8 and 11. Q28 in the grade 8 and 11 instruments; Q15 in grade 6. Instagram is an example in the combined electronic-bullying question, not a separate app measure.

Contact
“The next few questions ask about dating violence, sexual assault, and domestic violence or abuse. Remember that your answers will be kept private. You do not have to answer question that you don’t want to.”“Some of these questions might bring up difficult feelings and emotions. If you or someone you know is in crisis and needs help:”“YouthLine”“Teens are available to help daily from 4-10 pm PST (adults are available by phone at all other times)”“877.968.8491”“teen2teen to 839863B”“National Sexual Assault 24-Hour Hotline:”“1-800-656-HOPE (1-800-656-4673) or RAINN.org”“National Domestic Violence 24-Hour Hotline:”“1-800-799-SAFE (1-800-799-7233) or thehotline.org” “Has someone you were dating, hooking up, hanging out or going out with ever used your phone, social media or other technology to control or monitor you or shame or embarrass you with something you shared privately?”Response options: Yes / No / I am not sure / I don’t understand this question / I prefer not to answer

Grade 11 only. Asks about ever experiencing control, monitoring or shaming by a dating partner through technology. It is broader than unwanted messages and does not specify intimate imagery.

Offline or broader-context measurement

Bullying
“The next questions are about bullying. If you or someone you know needs help, a variety of free, confidential and anonymous support is available 24/7. Please see the Support Resource Sheet that will be handed out when you’re done with the survey for details.…” “During the past 12 months, have you ever been bullied on school property?”“During the past 12 months, have you ever been bullied when you were not on school property?”Response options: Yes / No / I am not sure / I don’t know what this question is asking / I prefer not to answer

Grades 6, 8 and 11. These school-property and outside-school questions describe locations; neither excludes electronic bullying.

Contact
“The next few questions ask about dating violence, sexual assault, and domestic violence or abuse. Remember that your answers will be kept private. You do not have to answer question that you don’t want to.”“Some of these questions might bring up difficult feelings and emotions. If you or someone you know is in crisis and needs help:”“YouthLine”“Teens are available to help daily from 4-10 pm PST (adults are available by phone at all other times)”“877.968.8491”“teen2teen to 839863B”“National Sexual Assault 24-Hour Hotline:”“1-800-656-HOPE (1-800-656-4673) or RAINN.org”“National Domestic Violence 24-Hour Hotline:”“1-800-799-SAFE (1-800-799-7233) or thehotline.org” “During the past year, did someone you were dating, hooking up, hanging out or going out with ever physically hurt you? For example, slapped or shoved you, threw something at you or physically prevented you from doing something, such as leaving?”Response options: Yes / No / I am not sure / I don’t understand this question / I prefer not to answer

Grade 11 Q64 and grade 8 Q61 ask about physical dating harm or restraint in the past year. This broader comparison differs in behavior, grades and recall period from the lifetime technology-facilitated dating-abuse question.
