Study details & methodology

Name
“2025 HEALTHY KIDS COLORADO SURVEY HIGH SCHOOL REPORT”

Healthy Kids Colorado Survey, 2025 survey wave.

State
“represents Colorado high school students.”

Colorado, United States; the entry includes the high-school and middle-school state reports.

Publication year
“Regional and statewide results are released at the beginning of the following summer”

Publication year 2026 is inferred from the 2025 survey and the following-summer release schedule, corroborated by Larimer County’s July 22, 2026 announcement of the results. The exact first statewide release date is not established. https://www.larimer.gov/spotlights/2026/07/22/healthy-kids-colorado-survey-shows-continued-progress-larimer-county-youth-well-being

Fieldwork dates
“This report includes weighted state results from the 2025 HKCS”

Fall 2025, as stated in the Colorado Department of Education results notice. Exact statewide start and end dates are not specified. https://ed.cde.state.co.us/shs/cdchealthyschoolsgrant

Sample size
“60,363”

70,009 participants: 60,363 high-school students plus 9,646 middle-school students (middle-school report, p. 3). The NCII question has 43,751 valid high-school responses; participation in the optional middle-school version is not established. The combined total is not the number answering each question.

Age range
“9th grade”“12th grade”

Grades 9–12 in the high-school report and grades 6–8 in the middle-school report (p. 3); combined coverage is grades 6–12.

Sampling
“Some of the schools that participate are included in a random sample selected to represent the state.”

A random school sample supports the statewide results. Some schools sample classrooms; most survey all students. Participation is voluntary and estimates are weighted.

Harms measured

Bullying
“The next section asks about bullying. Bullying is when 1 or more students tease, threaten, spread rumors about, hit, shove, or hurt another student over and over again. It is not bullying when 2 students of about the same strength or power argue, fight, or tease each other in a friendly way.…” “During the past 12 months, have you ever been electronically bullied? (Count being bullied through texting, social media, or any online platform.)”Response options: A. Yes / B. No

Grades 9–12. Asks about the respondent’s electronic bullying experiences over the past 12 months; apps are not measured separately. The middle-school instrument asks the same question at item 11 (p. 4).

Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery (NCII)
“The next section asks about sexual violence and consent. Consent means that you freely and actively agree to be with someone sexually and know what you are agreeing to. Consent can be saying “yes” or any other action that gives permission to engage in sexual activity. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. In this section, you will be asked about experiences with sexual violence, including harassment and rape. Information on free and confidential support services will be given at the end of the survey. As a reminder, your answers are anonymous and will be kept private. You may choose not to answer some or all of the questions.…” “During the past 12 months, has a revealing or sexual photo or video of you been texted, e-mailed, or posted electronically without your permission?”Response options: A. Yes / B. No / C. I don’t know

Grades 9–12. The high-school report gives 43,751 valid responses (Table 28, p. 31). The same question appears in an optional middle-school module, but its administration and respondent count are not established.

Offline or broader-context measurement

Bullying
“The next section asks about bullying. Bullying is when 1 or more students tease, threaten, spread rumors about, hit, shove, or hurt another student over and over again. It is not bullying when 2 students of about the same strength or power argue, fight, or tease each other in a friendly way.…” “During the past 12 months, where were you bullied on school property? (Select all that apply.)”Response options: A. In a classroom / B. In a hallway or stairwell / C. In a bathroom or locker room / D. In a cafeteria or lunch room / E. On a bus or at a bus stop / F. Outside on school property before school / G. Outside on school property after school / H. Outside on school property during lunch or break / I. Somewhere else on school property / J. I have not been bullied on school property in the past 12 months

Grades 9–12. Asks where bullying occurred on school property; electronic experiences are not explicitly excluded. The middle-school equivalent is item 10 (p. 4).
